Phil - Technical Wizard

With a passion for Yeti bikes, big 4WD's, Doritos and KFC chicken and a dislike for 29er's, it isn't a big surprise that Phill chose Dirt Works as his place of employment.

After teaching himself how to take his own bikes apart during his childhood, and putting them back together correctly (mostly), Phill started riding mountain bikes at around age 10, with his first MTB being a high tensile steel frame Malvern Star Mustang. Equipped with 10 speed shimano gears, and superlight steel 24" rims, Phill spent countless hours bashing around the streets and trails of the lower Blue Mountains.

Soon outgrowing this trusty steed, he went through bikes like they were going out of fashion, with race weapons such as the venerable Repco Tracer, Shogun Trail Breaker and a custom GT Tequesta being purchased for him by his parents.

When it came time for Phill to buy his own bikes, the fire engine red Reynolds 853 framed Salsa Ala Carte was the only logical decision. Since then, there have been many other bikes in his shed.

For his D&T major project in his final year of school, Phill designed and built a MTB frame out of Reynolds steel, and built it into a complete bike. The frame, although now retired, takes pride of place in the bike shed display area.

Once out of high school, Phill attended TAFE for 2 years studying mechanical engineering. This gave him the solid understanding of hydraulics and fluid flow concepts necessary for working on complex shock absorbers and forks.

Phill first cut his teeth in the bike industry working at Blackman Bicycles in sunny Penrith, gaining several years of valuable real world experience in the retail and workshop side of the bike game.

Now Phill spends his days in the Dirt Works Tech Caveā„¢ where he works hard to acquire in his giant head ALL that can be known about bike technology, and repair and service of suspension and brakes.
